MDinGBV project presented at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia

As part of the dissemination activities of the European project Master’s Degree in Gender-Based Violence (MDinGBV) – co-funded by the European Commission – representatives from the University of Ljubljana, prof. dr. Aleksandra Kanjuo Mrčela and Ms Vika Pušnik visited the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.

Professor Aleksandra Kanjuo Mrčela presented the project’s goals and ongoing work, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in advancing education and research on gender-based violence. The visit fostered dialogue on how academic institutions can strengthen equality, inclusion, and prevention strategies through interdisciplinary and cross-regional cooperation.
At the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Professor Kanjuo Mrčela and Ms Pušnik met with Camilo Bonilla (International Cooperation Coordinator), Oriana Galofre (International Mobility Officer), Erika Ospina (Research Capacity Building Coordinator), and representatives from Javeriana’s International Affairs Office. The meeting strengthened ties between the institutions and opened new avenues for collaboration in research, mobility, and joint academic initiatives.
During the visit, a podcast recording at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana led by Mariana Plazas Jácome provided a platform for an in-depth discussion on gender equality in academia. The conversation explored how Slovenia’s social and economic transformations have shaped gender relations in higher education and compared these dynamics with the Latin American context, particularly Colombia.

At the Universidad de los Andes Professor Kanjuo Mrčela and Ms Vika Pušnik met with Johan Sebastián Cruz Ramírez (Academic Cooperation Officer), Andrés Mantilla (Uniandes Science Diplomacy Officer) and Prof. dr. Matthieu de Castelbajac (professor and researcher at the Department of Sociology). After presentation of the project Master’s Degree in Gender-Based Violence (MDinGBV) by representatives of the University of Ljubljana, representatives of the Universidad de los Andes presented their institution, its history, current position and activities, with a special focus on research in sociology. The visit opened possibilities for future collaboration, especially in research.

This visit marked an important milestone in disseminating the MDinGBV project’s objectives in Latin America, promoting dialogue between European and Colombian partners, and reinforcing the shared commitment to advancing gender equality in higher education and beyond.
